The 6’4″ and 280 pound lineman out of Leesburg, Georgia, had been committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs since last June. But after Mullen and crew left Mississippi for greener pastures in The Swamp, both parties continued to show interest in each other. McDowell projects as a center at in college, though he does have experience play at center, guard, and even left tackle. With T.J. McCoy being the only true center on the roster, the depth chart gets very thin as Tyler Jordan is the only other real option – and he may be needed at other spots throughout the season.
While McDowell will need some time to grow into an SEC lineman, he will be a solid commit for the Gators and has a lot of versatility while providing needed depth on the line. McDowell is the Gators 2nd official signing of the day.
